7 day Woodfiring Workshop

This workshop is suitable for beginners and seasoned makers alike. Join me for a firing of my anagama ‘Bob’. Together we will gather for 6 days to glaze, load, and fire the kiln. We will have two rest days before returning to unload on the final day.

You will learn:
glazing practices and decoration for a multi-day woodfiring
wadding variations and tumble stacking techniques
loading a woodkiln for best ash/flame effects
how to fire with wood!
reduction cooling for matte surfaces, and deep colour
cold-working your pots post firing

Firing expenses
3 cubic ft kiln space (room for 10-20 pieces, dependant on size)
Use of studio tools and equipment
Two dinners, and snacks during the firing
Accommodations/club house for resting and overnights during the firing (Aug 23-28 only)

*Fee does not include accommodation for rest days, transportation, or most meals. Please be in touch when you register if you are coming from out of town, and I can help you find a place to stay in the area. I will also be in touch with participants prior to the workshop to help coordinate carpooling. If cost is prohibitive to you, please reach out.


*A note about lodging - I have opted to include accommodations in the fee for the workshop so that we have a communal space to share meals and rest between stoking shifts, as well as to facilitate carpooling to the kiln site (parking space is limited there). We will stay at a local private house within a short drive from the kiln. A big part of woodfiring is community building, and the camaraderie developed during our time together - I have found in my many years of teaching that having a shared space during the firing is integral to developing a team mindset, and to more deeply connecting as a group. If you are local and would prefer to opt out of the accommodations, please be in touch after registration and a portion of the fee will be returned to you.
